I’m going to keep this review pretty short. Friday night I watched Butterfly and Sword, a 1993 Chinese martial arts fantasy film. It stars Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Donnie Yen.

It’s a fast paced action film, with a lot of over the top scenes, including Michelle Yeoh, becoming a human bow, to Tony Leung’s human arrow, disposing of many enemies in the process. It hasn’t aged particularly well, and the picture quality is pretty poor, and needs someone to remaster it. There are even more over the top action scenes, some of which are a little gory to boot.

I partially enjoyed the film, and in other parts was hoping for the thing to finish, I watched it to the end however, and did enjoy it in part. I can’t give the film too much of a high score, so I will give it a 3 1/2 out of 5.
